Paul Barnard

(BCom, LLB (Honours), CFA)

After graduation, Paul joined the Corporate Finance team at PwC in Auckland in 2010. He transferred to the Johannesburg office in 2013, where he worked in both the Valuations & Economics and Mergers & Acquisitions teams. Paul joined i capital advisers as Associate director in April 2017 with a view to growing the corporate finance business. He has in-depth experience across a number of core corporate finance functions, and has a robust knowledge of corporate transaction advisory services, valuation theory, financial modelling, transaction structuring and the practical application of these skill sets in a corporate transaction setting. Paul has advised on many successful corporate transactions in South Africa across a range of industries and transaction types.

Paul graduated from the University of Auckland in New Zealand in 2009 with a BCom degree, majoring in Finance, and an LLB (Honours) degree. He has also completed the CFA professional qualification and the JSE Sponsor course.

Outside of work, Paul is an outdoors enthusiast with a keen interest in hiking, cycle touring, and travelling.

Group Chief Executive Officer

Lance Williams

(BComm BAcc, CA(SA))

Lance is the Group Chief Executive Officer of i capital and is responsible for the overall operations of the i capital Group. He is one of the original founders of i capital and serves as a director, and is actively involved in the day to day management, of all of the various group’s subsidiary companies. He also has detailed knowledge and experience in investing and mergers and acquisitions garnered over the years by providing advice on numerous transactions as well executing various transactions undertaken by i capital.

He also has extensive knowledge of the regulatory environment affecting both corporate finance transactions and the offering financial services, including knowledge of the Companies Act, FAIS Act, and associated tax legislation. In addition, he has an in-depth knowledge of the various types of valuation techniques utilised internationally.

He graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1994 with a B.Comm BAcc (with distinction) and placed in the top ten in the board exam (QE) in 1995. He is a co-founder and past director of Young Business for South Africa, a non-profit organisation that aims to promote networking and understanding between all young economically active South Africans. Lance holds a number of non-executive directorships, including serving on the board of the Reach for a Dream Foundation.

Prior to his co-founding i capital in 1998, Lance was an associate within the Corporate Finance division of the Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS). At UBS he was involved in executing large corporate finance transactions, including mergers, acquisitions and disposals. Lance has been involved in the execution of a number of high-profile transactions involving large listed companies.

Prior to joining UBS, Lance served his articles at Price Waterhouse and was also employed in its corporate finance department. Lance is married to Roanna and is the proud father of four girls.

Senior Analyst

Simon Mohasoa

Simon completed his B Com (Accounting) degree cum laude and his B Com Hons (Financial Management) degree from the University of Johannesburg in 2018. In 2019 he joined the KPMG Corporate Finance team as a corporate finance analyst. He spent three years at KPMG Corporate Finance, gaining broad valuation and financial modelling experience. He joined i capital advisers in August 2022 as a senior analyst with a view to transitioning into a merger and acquisition advisory capacity. His role at i capital advisers entails the provision of transaction related support, preparing marketing documentation, facilitating discussions with bidders and targets, valuations, and financial modelling, as well as deal origination. He is currently in the process of completing his CIMA qualification.
